The free image compressor and converter that keeps your photos private

Big images slow websites down, fill up storage and get rejected by upload forms. Pixbyt is a simple online image optimizer that makes your pictures lighter in seconds: reduce the file size of JPG, PNG and WebP images, convert HEIC photos to JPG, change image formats and resize photos without installing anything.

Everything you need to optimize images online

Your photos stay on your device

Pixbyt works inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored on a server, and nobody else ever sees your pictures. That makes it a safe image compressor for personal photos, ID scans and client work.

Reduce image size, not sharpness

Photos usually get 50–90% smaller with no visible change. Pick a preset, or drag the quality slider until the file size feels right.

Compress to an exact file size

Need an image under 200 KB for a form, or under 1 MB for an email? Switch to Target size, type the limit, and the tool does the rest.

Convert between popular formats

Turn HEIC into JPG, PNG into WebP, or any image into a favicon-ready ICO. Mixed batches are fine.

Resize while you compress

Set a maximum width or height and large camera photos are scaled down automatically, with the proportions kept.

Batch processing and one-click ZIP

Drop dozens of images at once, watch the progress bar, then download them one by one or all together in a single ZIP file.

How to compress an image in 3 easy steps

  1. Add your images

Drag them onto the box, click to browse, or paste a screenshot straight from your clipboard.

  2. Choose your settings

Pick a quality preset, a maximum size or a new format. The defaults already work well for most websites.

  3. Download the result

Compare the before and after file sizes, then save each image or grab everything as a ZIP.

Supported image formats

FormatWhat it is best for
JPGThe everyday choice for photos. Small files, works everywhere. Great target when you convert HEIC or PNG photos.
PNGLossless and perfect for logos, screenshots and graphics with transparency. Large photos are better as WebP or JPG.
WebPModern format that is often 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same quality. Ideal for faster websites.
HEIC / HEIFiPhone photos. Convert them to JPG or WebP so they open on any device, website or form.
AVIF · GIF · TIFFRead and turned into widely supported images. Animated GIFs become a still picture of the first frame.
SVG · ICORasterise a vector logo to PNG, or turn any picture into an ICO for a favicon (capped at 256 px).

Tips for smaller images with great quality

  • Start with Balanced (80%). It is the sweet spot between size and sharpness for most photos.
  • Building a website? Resize to the largest size it will actually be shown at, usually 1200–1600 px wide.
  • Convert to WebP for the web, keep PNG only when you need lossless quality or transparency.
  • Files are never made bigger on purpose: if an image is already well optimised you get the original back, marked “Already optimal”.
  • Metadata such as GPS location and camera details is removed, which is good for privacy when you share photos online.

Frequently asked questions

Is this image compressor really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit. Because the work happens on your own device, there is no server cost to pass on to you.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Pixbyt compresses and converts everything inside your browser, so your files never leave your phone or computer. You can check this yourself in your browser’s network tab.

How do I reduce image size without losing quality?

Keep the quality between 75% and 85% and leave the size on Original. At that level most people cannot tell the difference, yet JPG and WebP photos are often more than half the size. If you need it sharper, try the “Sharp” preset.

How can I compress an image to a specific size, like 100 KB or 1 MB?

Choose “Target size” under Optimize by, enter the number and select KB or MB, then add your image. The tool lowers the quality step by step until the file fits, as long as that is possible without changing the dimensions.

Which format is best: JPG, PNG or WebP?

Use JPG for photos that must work everywhere, WebP for the smallest files on websites, and PNG for logos, icons and screenshots that need sharp edges or transparency.

Can I convert HEIC to JPG?

Yes. Add your iPhone photos, choose JPG (or WebP) under “Convert to”, and download the result. With Auto selected, HEIC images become PNG, which is lossless but larger.

Why is my PNG not getting much smaller?

PNG is a lossless format, so the quality slider has little effect on it. For big savings, convert the PNG to WebP or JPG, or use the resize option to lower its dimensions.

Can I compress many images at once?

Absolutely. Select or drop as many images as you like, and download them individually or all together as a ZIP. Very large batches are limited only by your device’s memory.

Will smaller images make my website faster?

Usually, yes. Images are often the heaviest part of a page, so lighter files help your pages load faster, improve Core Web Vitals such as Largest Contentful Paint, and save mobile data for your visitors.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. The layout adapts to any screen size, and you can pick photos straight from your gallery or camera roll on iPhone, iPad and Android.
